Christmas Lights

One of my favorite annual events growing up was taking a road trip down to Bristol, Tennessee for the “Speedway in Lights” – more than three miles of Christmas lights ending in a lap around the track. My family would pack up in the minivan and make the 2-hour trek just to see the incredible display, and as a deeply musical family, we’d sing Christmas carols the whole way down.

I still get so much joy out of seeing Christmas lights – there’s something profoundly magical about seeing our neighborhood covered in decorations. I see the same joy in my three-year-old daughter when she looks out the window and squeals at our neighbors’ 14-foot-tall evergreen draped in multicolored lights (and her disappointment when it’s not turned on yet!).

There are other lights this holiday season that bring just as much joy. The way you can light up a room when you bring smiles and kindness during your volunteer shift. Switching off an overhead light help a patient sleep during a stressful time. The lightness someone feels in their chest when they see you are there to help them find their way.

Thank you for being a source of joy and light for each of our patients, associates, and guests this holiday season.

Merry Christmas!
