Alumni Resident Testimonials: Elizabeth Schlosser

Elizabeth Schlosser is currently an Ambulatory Care Pharmacist and an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at a local college of pharmacy. Her career started as a PGY1 Pharmacy Resident at St. Elizabeth Healthcare, here is her story:

Throughout my pharmacy career I have always known I wanted to pursue residency training to become an Ambulatory Care Pharmacist. The most rewarding parts of my job are when I see patients’ lives change and they become their healthiest selves. By managing their medications, I am able to play a small part in that journey.

This professional fulfillment would not have been possible without my residency training at St. Elizabeth Healthcare. As a student from an out of state college of pharmacy, I was not as familiar with St. E and first connected with the program during the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting. I distinctly remember feeling immediately connected to the pharmacists and residents I met there. That feeling only strengthened during my interview and eventual match with the program. One of the biggest advantages I saw in St. Elizabeth Healthcare’s Pharmacy Residency Programs was the diversity of rotation experiences and the willingness of program leadership to customize the learning experience to each resident.

My first year of residency expanded my knowledge of hospital pharmacy care, piqued my interest in research, and most importantly helped me become an independent pharmacist practitioner. During my second year of residency in Ambulatory Care, I developed strong relationships with the interprofessional teams and gained clinical experience in a variety of pharmacy settings.

As my second year of residency ended, I knew that I wanted a career that included direct patient care in an ambulatory setting, teaching, research, and involvement in professional pharmacy organizations. To that end I accepted a position as an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice and Administrative Sciences at the University of Cincinnati James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy with a practice site at St. Elizabeth Physicians. Every day in this role, I utilize both clinical and non-clinical skills I learned through my residency training at St. Elizabeth Healthcare. I have been lucky that my position includes direct patient care at St. Elizabeth Physicians Primary Care and I am able maintain close relationships with my St. Elizabeth colleagues. I now also serve as a preceptor for the programs I graduated from and get to help others achieve their goals!

My decision to pursue residency training at St. Elizabeth Healthcare was one of the best decisions I have ever made!
