The first talk of a cancer center in Dearborn County came in 2016.
Michael Schwebler, the president and CEO of the then Dearborn County Hospital, started discussing the idea.
That idea is now coming to reality as St. Elizabeth Healthcare ceremonially broke ground Friday for a $30-million center on Flossie Drive near Interstate 275 and U.S. 50 in Greendale.
“We put a strategic plan together in 2016, and part of that strategy was the idea that we wanted to put a cancer center in this community,” Schwebler said.
