St. Elizabeth underwent rigorous, unannounced onsite reviews for the Spine Surgery program and the Total Shoulder Replacement program. During each visit, a Joint Commission reviewer evaluated compliance with its standards spanning several areas including:

- Aligning communication and collaboration among all disciplines.

They are informed by scientific literature and expert consensus to help health care organizations measure, assess and improve performance. The surveyors also conducted onsite observations and interviews.
