Boone County Schools staff receive COVID-19 vaccine

Written by Jenna Cisneros

Educators and staff in the Boone County School district received their COVID-19 vaccines.

Boone County Schools partnered with St. Elizabeth Healthcare to provide employees with the COVID-19 vaccine in two doses.

The first dose of the vaccine was administered Saturday, January 23rd, and Sunday, January 24th, 2021 at Boone County High School.

Vaccine administration time is from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days in the Boone County High School Gymnasium located at 7056 Burlington Pike, Florence, KY 41042.

“We're hoping this gives everyone a measure of comfort and security moving forward and safety, so you can just feel the energy and excitement,” Superintendent Matt Turner, Boone County Schools said.

990 Pfizer vaccines were distributed Saturday, and another 780 were given on Sunday.

As the district currently runs on a hybrid model, staff are hopeful getting this vaccine is the first step to getting kids back in the classroom five days a week.

“It's just exciting for the students and the staff because we're going on a year now that we've not had regular school, and it's been very, very difficult for everybody in the education profession, particularly for our students, it's just not normal for them,” Tim Schlotman, Principal, Boone County High School said.

School leaders say 60% of the district's staff chose to receive the vaccine.
