St. Elizabeth Receives an A for Patient Safety in Spring 2018 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade

Edgewood, KY – The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit organization committed to driving quality, safety, and transparency in the U.S. health care system, today released new Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades, which assign A, B, C, D and F letter grades to hospitals nationwide. St. Elizabeth Edgewood and St. Elizabeth Ft. Thomas were two of 750 hospitals to receive an “A” for its commitment to reducing errors, infections, and accidents that can harm patients. This is the fifth consecutive year St. Elizabeth Edgewood has received an A grade.

“As an organization, St. Elizabeth takes the care and safety of our patients very seriously and we are constantly striving to deliver high quality care,” said Garren Colvin, president and CEO of St. Elizabeth Healthcare. “Receiving an A grade from Leapfrog for the fifth consecutive year is indicative of that commitment.”

“This is the only national rating of how well hospitals protect patients from preventable harm and death, such as medical errors, infections, and injuries,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “Receiving an ‘A’ Safety Grade means a hospital is among the best in the country for preventing these terrible problems and putting their patients first, 24 hours a day.”

Developed under the guidance of an Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign A, B, C, D and F grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.
