Edgewood, KY— St. Elizabeth Healthcare has become one of Healthgrades America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Care in 2017. This recognition is equivalent to being in the top 5 percent of all hospitals nationwide in cardiac care. In addition, St. Elizabeth Edgewood is the only hospital in Kentucky to achieve top 5 percent status in cardiac care in 2017 from Healthgrades.

Healthgrades independently measures hospitals based on data that hospitals submit to the federal government. No hospital can opt in or out of being measured, and no hospital pays to be measured. Mortality and complication rates are risk adjusted, which takes into account each hospital’s unique patient population (demographics and severity of illness).

“What makes us particularly proud of the Healthgrades recognition is that it is one of the only national rankings that rates hospitals based solely on actual clinical outcomes,” says Garren Colvin, St. Elizabeth Healthcare President and CEO. “This means heart patients in Northern Kentucky do not have to leave their community to receive heart care that is nationally ranked in the top 5 percent of all hospitals.”

Among the other notable cardiac care recognitions at St. Elizabeth Edgewood include:

• Named among the top 10 percent in the nation for cardiac surgery in 2017
• Named among the top 10 percent in the nation for coronary intervention in 2017
• Five-star recipient for treatment of heart attack for two years in a row (2016-2017)

This announcement comes on the heels of the St. Elizabeth interventional cardiology team becoming the first in Greater Cincinnati to implant a newly approved dissolving heart stent following FDA approval. In June, St. Elizabeth also began offering the world’s smallest pacemaker for patients with bradycardia and has already performed four procedures with the FDA-approved device.
