At the St. Elizabeth Total Joint Center, our surgeons perform hundreds of hip replacement surgeries. We use our in-depth training and diagnostic expertise to determine the best treatment for you. Thanks to minimally invasive techniques and new technology, we’re able to offer innovative approaches to hip replacement. That means our patients experience better results and faster recovery. Your surgeon considers many factors when developing your treatment plan. Your overall health, medical issues, support at home and your commitment to rehabilitation come into play. Just like you, we want the best results possible. Our surgeons have the expertise and experience you want when it comes to making the best choice. Anterior Approach to Hip Replacement The anterior approach to hip replacement is a newer minimally invasive procedure that accesses the hip joint through a small incision toward the front of the hip, where it’s closer to the skin. Critical muscles around the joint can be moved rather than cut, which makes healing and recovery much easier. The anterior approach allows you to bend at the hip and return to most activities as soon as you feel comfortable. Posterior Approach to Hip Replacement For the posterior approach, the surgeon makes an incision toward the back of the hip near the buttocks. While this approach provides a better view of the hip joint, it requires cutting muscles that help you walk. Same-Day Total Hip Replacement Thanks to new minimally invasive surgical procedures, it’s now possible to have hip replacement on an outpatient basis. This allows you to be home sooner, to recuperate where you're more comfortable. Same-day hip replacement uses the anterior approach to hip replacement surgery, which results in less pain and a faster recovery. If you meet the medical criteria and have support at home, the same-day option may be right for you. Inpatient Total Hip Replacement Same-day hip replacement surgery isn’t right for everyone. There may be issues that require you to stay in the hospital one-two nights after surgery to provide the monitoring and care you need to heal and recover in the best way possible. Also, you may feel more comfortable having support from our Orthopaedic team immediately accessible in those first days after surgery. While you’re in the hospital, you’ll begin rehabilitation immediately. Hip Arthroscopy with Pivot Guardian Distraction System You may not need to suffer with hip pain until you need a hip replacement. With today’s technology, we help preserve your hip longer with minimally invasive hip arthroscopy.
