Family Birth Place Care Units

Learn about the special rooms in the hospital where you’ll get care during your stay at the St. Elizabeth Edgewood’s Family Birth Place in Kenton County, Kentucky.

Triage Unit

Triage is located in labor and delivery on the 1st floor at Edgewood. It is devoted an outpatient assessment area where patients are seen and evaluated prior to admission to hospital. Patients can be sent to triage by their physician or midwife for a short-term observation to determine what level of care is needed. Some patients may be treated and discharged home while others may be admitted for labor or fetal monitoring.

Patients that have not yet reached their 15th week of pregnancy are usually seen and treated in the Emergency Department.

Labor, Delivery & Recovery Unit

As you await the arrival of your new baby, you will enjoy one of our private birthing rooms. While here, you will have the support of our trained associates and various resources to help accommodate your birth plan. With preparation and adult supervision, your new baby’s siblings are permitted to be in the room while you give birth.

The Family Birth Place is committed to providing family-centered maternity care, encouraging and supporting the many benefits associated with the baby remaining with his or her mother throughout the hospital stay. However, The Family Birth Place also has a nursery available should the need arise for closer observation.

Breastfeeding Support During Your Stay

Certified lactation consultants are on hand in the Post Partum Care Center, if you chose to breastfeed your baby and would like extra support and education.
