Overview

With proctitis, the lining of the muscular tube connected to the end of the colon (rectum) is inflamed. Inflammatory bowel diseases and sexually transmitted infections are common causes.

Symptoms

It can cause rectal pain and a continuous sensation of needing to have a bowel movement.

Treatments

Treatment depends on the cause but may include medications.
