Overview

Mesothelioma is cancer that starts in the thin layer of tissue that covers many internal organs. It can happen in the lining around the lungs, stomach, heart and other organs. It most often affects the lungs.

Symptoms

A cough, chest pain and shortness of breath are symptoms of mesothelioma in the chest. In the abdomen, mesothelioma can cause abdominal pain and nausea.

Treatments

Treatments may include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, targeted therapy and immunotherapy.
