Dermoid cyst

Updated: 2023-10-31

Description

A small, noncancerous lump in the skin, often near the eye, present at birth. This type of lump is also called a cyst.

Overview

The most common location for a dermoid cyst is the outer part of the eye socket near the end of an eyebrow.

Symptoms

Dermoid cysts are smooth, rubbery, and not painful. A cyst that breaks open can inflame the skin and result in an infection.

Treatments

To avoid health issues, dermoid cysts are often removed by surgery.
