Surgical Weight Loss
Dr. M. Ryan Moon, Co-medical Director, Surgical Weight Loss Program
Dr. M. Ryan Moon is the Co-medical Director of the surgical program at St. Elizabeth Weight Management Center in Florence, and has been a member of the general surgery team at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center/St. Luke Hospitals since 2005.
Dr. Moon earned his bachelor of science and his doctor of medicine from Creighton University, School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska. He completed his residency at the University of Cincinnati, College of Medicine, serving as Chief Resident from 2000 to 2001. Additionally, Dr. Moon has served as a Clinical Instructor and Clinical Coordinator at Yonsei University, as well as135th Forward Surgical Team Commander, and General Surgeon and Chief of General Surgery at 121st General Hospital in Seoul, Korea. He has received numerous awards and honors and has published many articles throughout his career.
He is a board-certified general surgeon who focuses on minimally invasive procedures including those in the treatment of obesity. Dr. Moon gained much of his bariatric surgical experience through his work with Dwayne Smith, M.D. Dr Moon performs laparoscopic Roux En Y gastric bypass, laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding, and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. He has participated in over 400 bariatric operations. Dr. Moon is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Dwayne Smith, Co-medical Director, Surgical Weight Loss Program
Dr. Dwayne Smith currently serves as Co-medical Director of the Surgical Weight Loss Program for St. Elizabeth Weight Management. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is an American Board of Surgery Board Certified General Surgeon, with extensive experience in general, thoracic, vascular, and bariatric surgery. Dr. Smith completed both his internship and residency at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident. He has also served previously as Chief of Surgery and President of the medical staff at St. Elizabeth Healthcare. He is a full member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
Dr Smith performed the first Roux-en-Y gastric bypass procedure in Northern KY in 2002. He has performed well over 1000 adjustable gastric band placements, gastric bypasses, and revisional procedures, making him one of the most experienced bariatric surgeons in the region.
Medical Weight Loss
Dr. Troy Schumann, Medical Director, Medical Weight Loss Program
Dr. Troy Schumann
joined the St. Elizabeth Weight Management Center in Florence as its Obesity Specialist Physician and serves as its Medical Director for the medically-managed weight loss programs. Dr. Schumann is Board Certified in Family Medicine and has practiced in Northern Kentucky since 1993. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine, a member of the American Society of Bariatric Physicians and is in the process of becoming a certified Bariatrician through the American Board of Bariatric Medicine. His particular interest in the field of weight management is focusing on long-term weight loss focused on permanent lifestyle changes utilizing proven methods which are taught by himself and his multidisciplinary team of clinicians who also specialize in weight management.
Dr. Schumann graduated from Highlands High School in Ft. Thomas, KY. He received an associate of arts in chemistry and a bachelor of arts in biology from Thomas More College. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University Of Kentucky College Of Medicine. Following a 3 year residency in Family Medicine at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Dr. Schumann joined Summit Medical Group and has remained with them through their growth into St. Elizabeth Physicians. His interest and expertise in weight management has grown while assisting patients in his family practice setting who have needed his guidance these last 18 years.
Dr. Schumann lives in Union, KY, with his wife, Andrea, a son, Blake, and a daughter, Alexis. He serves as team physician for Beechwood Athletics and enjoys following the University of Kentucky athletics as well as numerous outdoor activities.
Family Nurse Practitioner
Ronda Hart is a Family Nurse Practitioner with an extensive background in internal medicine and the management of chronic disease associated with obesity. She is a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, receiving both a bachelors and a master’s degree in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She received the award for Outstanding Clinical Excellence in her graduating class.
Ronda is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and is a Certified Bariatric Nurse (CBN). She is a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
She is a member of our medical weight loss team and helps to manage patients both pre-operatively and post-operatively. Ronda also scrubs in and assists during surgery. She will be there with you for every step of your journey, helping you to succeed!
Clinical Psychologist/Behavioral Health Specialist
Dr. Laurie Little is a Clinical Psychologist and currently serves as the Behavioral Health Specialist for the St. Elizabeth Weight Management Center.
Dr. Little graduated summa cum laude from the University of Rochester where she earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She went on to earn her master’s and doctorate degrees in psychology from the University of Hartford.
Prior to joining the St. Elizabeth Weight Management Center, Dr. Little owned and managed a private practice for 10 years. She specializes in bariatric assessment, eating disorders, instinctive eating and mindfulness.
Dr. Little conducts pre-surgical psychological assessments for patients preparing for weight loss surgery, and provides psychotherapy for patients adjusting to the many life changes following weight loss surgery. She is also a licensed Am I Hungry?® facilitator and teaches patients lifelong skills for managing weight and emotional eating so they can finally break free from the “eat, repent, repeat” cycle.
Dr. Little is a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the Cincinnati Academy of Professional Psychologists.
Bariatric Nutrition Coordinator
Beth T. is a Registered, Licensed Dietitian for the St. Elizabeth Weight Management Center. She completed her undergraduate degree at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio and her dietetic internship at Mt. Carmel Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
Her professional experience includes clinical dietetics for long-term and acute care facilities, as well as Clinical Nutrition Coordinator for St. Elizabeth Healthcare. Beth currently serves as the Bariatric Nutrition Coordinator. Although her area of expertise is weight management, specializing in the nutritional care for patients who undergo surgical weight loss, she also enjoys working with those seeking medical weight loss. She has earned a certificate in Adult Weight Management and is a member of the American Dietetic Association, the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the Weight Management Practice Group.
Beth is a website author and featured dietitian for Ethicon-Endo Surgery. She has been recognized in the professional journal “Today’s Dietitians” as one of the top ten dietitians in the country.
Beth H. is a Nutrition Counselor for the St. Elizabeth Weight Management Center for those patients choosing a non-surgical weight loss path. Beth has a passion for teaching patients and enjoys guiding them to a healthier diet and lifestyle. She counsels patients in individual or group weight management. She also counsels patients on other medical therapeutic diets including gluten free, hyperlipidemia, hypoglycemia and renal failure.
Beth earned a bachelor of science in dietetics from Eastern Kentucky University and a master’s degree in nutrition education from the University of Cincinnati. She is a Registered Dietitian, licensed in the state of Kentucky. She has worked in long-term and acute care (including medical and intensive care) and provided leadership as the Clinical Nutrition Manager. She has a special interest in weight management and has successfully completed requirements to receive her certificate in Weight Management.
Lindsey H. is a Registered Dietitian and Personal Trainer. She provides nutrition and fitness counseling for all components of the St. Elizabeth Weight Management Center. She completed her undergraduate degree at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and did her dietetic internship at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Lindsey is a member of the American Dietetic Association (ADA) and the Weight Management Practice Group, and is a Certified Personal Trainer through the American Council on Exercise (ACE). She has worked in various settings including acute care, outpatient weight management and fitness centers. She specializes in surgical weight loss counseling and education. Lindsey educates patients on nutrition and exercise and believes that the combination must exist for optimal weight loss success.
Amber C. is a Registered, Licensed Dietitian for the St. Elizabeth Weight Management Center. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, OH and her dietetic internship through the University of Northern Colorado’s distance internship program in Greeley, CO.
Amber’s professional experience includes clinical dietetics as an outpatient dietitian for a Surgical Weight Loss program. She has also served as an inpatient dietitian and has earned a certificate in Adult Weight Management.
Amber enjoys working with patients at the weight management center to help them achieve a healthier lifestyle.
Becky J. earned a bachelor of science in nutrition and a master’s degree in public health from Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois. She began her career at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center in Illinois as an Inpatient Dietitian for oncology, CCU and medical surgical floors. She has an interest in weight loss counseling and diabetes. She is a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) and a member of the American Dietetic Association (ADA). Her main focus is counseling patients in the medical programs at the St. Elizabeth Weight Management Center.
Patricia (Patti) K. is a registered dietitian, for St. Elizabeth Healthcare’s Weight Management Center. She is licensed in Kentucky and Ohio and has extensive experience in weight management and lipid abnormalities.
Patti has a bachelor of science degree from the Ohio State University in Medical Dietetics. She has worked in hospitals, long term care facilities, outpatient clinics, physicians' offices, and research centers.
Patti works with non-surgical, surgical and medical nutrition therapy patients. She enjoys working with individuals and groups, helping to improve patients' health through diet and lifestyle.
Karah S. is a Registered Dietitian for the St. Elizabeth Weight Management Center. She provides nutrition counseling and education to the Center’s non-surgical patients. She enjoys helping patients achieve and maintain their weight loss goals and empowering them to make healthy food choices for life.
Karah earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Dayton and continued her education at the University of Cincinnati. She completed her dietetic internship at The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. She is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Weight Management dietetic practice group. She has previous experience in inpatient clinical nutrition in an acute care setting as well as outpatient medical nutrition therapy.
Karen S. is a Clinical Nurse II for the St. Elizabeth Weight Management Center and is a graduate of the University of Kentucky. Her professional experience includes the Partnership for a Fit Kentucky as well as past chair of communications for the Professional Practice Council. She is currently a member of the Magnet Committee where she is the Champion for the Weight Management Center. Karen has a deep passion for helping her patients with their journey to a healthier weight and has been instrumental in the success of countless patients throughout her career.
Jenny G. is a Clinical Nurse II for the St. Elizabeth Weight Management Center. Her goal is to encourage her patients through the struggles they face during their weight loss. She is always compassionate and professional, and has a genuine concern for her patients’ well-being that shines through during her weekly work with them.
Tammy L. is a Registered Nurse for the St. Elizabeth Weight Management Center. She is a graduate of Northern Kentucky University where she earned her nursing degree.
In addition to Weight Management, Tammy has worked in critical care, the outpatient settings of interventional radiology and women's wellness throughout her career.
With all of the options available to help maintain a healthy lifestyle, Tammy enjoys being a part of the life-changing experience patients encounter in our Weight Management Center.
Judy S. received her nursing degree from Northern Kentucky University. Her areas of expertise include inpatient bedside nursing care and outpatient care. Judy enjoys watching patients’ transformations during their weekly meetings as they move towards their weight loss goals.
Angela S. is a graduate of Northern Kentucky University where she earned an associate’s degree in nursing. She began her career with St. Luke and remained with the organization through the transition into St. Elizabeth Healthcare. Previously, she has worked as a Patient Care Assistant (PCA) and a Unit Clerk.
Linda Y. is currently a Registered Nurse for the St. Elizabeth Weight Management Center, but has worked in every area of nursing throughout her career. Linda enjoys working in weight management and strives to equip her patients with the tools they need to be successful on their program when she sees them each week.
Angela T. is the Department Manager for the St. Elizabeth Weight Management Center. She strives to ensure the best possible overall experience, services and outcomes for patients, and coordinates those efforts with the dedicated staff and Medical Directors. Angela is always looking for ways to improve services, is willing to assist patients in any way she can and has extensive experience in the community as a Medical Practice Manager. She studeied accounting at Northern Kentucky University and is an affiliate member of the American Society of Bariatric Physicians.
Cheryl F. is a Medical Assistant/Clerical Coordinator. She loves working with patients and strives to make everyone feel welcome and at ease. She is involved with patient care and also works in the front office.
Sandi M. serves as the Secretary for the St. Elizabeth Weight Management Center at. Prior to joining the Center, she worked as a PBX operator, a hospital cashier, and in the Finance department. Sandi strives to always be ready to assist patients, no matter their need.
Jessilyn N. functions as a receptionist/data entry clerk and certified nursing assistant. She greets patients and assists them with their check-in, schedules appointments, and takes care of the referrals that come in. Jessilyn enjoys greeting the patients, facilitating a positive and supportive environment, and seeing their weight loss success.
is the Department Secretary and Front Desk Associate for the St. Elizabeth Weight Management Center. She is currently working toward her bachelor’s degree in biology.
Kristine’s experience includes insurance pre-certification and authorizations. She also assists patients with scheduling appointments and checking out after their appointments. Kristine’s enjoys smiling and laughing with the patients to help them feel at ease.
is a Certified Medical Assistant/Clerical Coordinator for the St. Elizabeth Weight Management Center. She has earned an associate degree in medical information technology with a certificate in medical coding and billing.
is a Certified Nursing Assistant with CNA experience in areas such as NICU, pediatrics and psychiatry. He is currently pursuing a nursing degree.
