Transplant rejection

Updated: 2017-06-13

Transplant rejection is a process in which the body's immune system rejects a transplanted organ, limb, or tissue. The immune system attacks the transplant because it's foreign to the body.

Symptoms may be flu-like and also include discomfort and a decline in the organ's function.

Immune-suppressing drugs may prevent or stop rejection.
