Overview

Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection causes warts. More than 100 HPV strains cause warts in different parts of the body. More than 40 strains affect the genitals. Some genital HPV can cause cervical cancer.

Treatments

A vaccine that prevents the HPV strains most likely to cause genital warts and cervical cancer is recommended for boys and girls.
