Overview

Dissociative identity disorder, previously called multiple personality disorder, is characterized by the presence of 2 or more distinct personality states (identities). Each may have a unique name, personal history, and characteristics.

Treatments

This is usually a reaction to trauma, to help a person avoid bad memories. Treatment is talk therapy.
