Male pattern baldness (androgenic alopecia) is a condition in which the scalp permanently loses hair. It occurs in women as well as men. The cause is genetic.

Medications can prevent further hair loss. Surgery can transplant hair or reduce the area of bald skin. Natural-looking wigs and hairpieces can help cover hair loss.
