CINCINNATI — David Szeremet has been running for 40 years, competing in over 50 marathons across the United States. For nearly 15 of those years, Szeremet has also participated as a pace runner for the Flying Pig Marathon here in Cincinnati. However, it all almost came crashing down after he was diagnosed with endocarditis and underwent his first of two open-heart surgeries just over a year ago.
