Fistula

Updated: 2017-06-13

Overview

A fistula is an abnormal connection between organs. One example is an infected tunnel from the anus to the skin (anal fistula). Another is an opening from the vagina into the bladder or another nearby organ (vaginal fistula). A fistula can also develop between an artery and a vein.

Treatments

Most fistulae need surgical repair.
