An embolism is the sudden blocking of an artery. This may be caused by a mass of clumped blood (clot), fat, or an air bubble.

Treatments

An embolism can be life-threatening, blocking blood flow to the brain, heart, or lungs. Prompt medical treatment reduces risk of death.
