Personalized Care for Every Stage of Heart Health
At St. Elizabeth, our Cardiology team is a foundational part of the Florence Wormald Heart & Vascular Institute, providing advanced expertise and compassionate care for patients across Northern Kentucky and Southeastern Indiana. Our board-certified clinical and interventional cardiologists deliver innovative treatments and comprehensive services, ensuring every patient receives the highest standard of heart care from a team they trust.
Clinical Cardiologists
Our clinical cardiologists are experts in diagnosing, preventing and managing a broad spectrum of heart conditions using noninvasive, patient-centered approaches. They partner with you to develop personalized strategies for long-term heart health – whether you’re addressing high blood pressure, cholesterol, or a family history of heart disease.
Utilizing sophisticated diagnostic technology and evidence-based care, our clinical team collaborates with primary care providers, endocrinologists, lipid specialists and pharmacists to deliver seamless, coordinated treatment plans. Their goal is to empower you with the knowledge and support needed to maintain and improve your cardiovascular wellness.
Interventional Cardiologists
Interventional cardiologists are highly skilled in performing non-surgical, catheter-based procedures to treat obstructions around the heart. They often serve as the first line of treatment for blocked arteries or structural heart issues, offering life-saving interventions such as:
These procedures are performed in our state-of-the-art Cardiac Catheterization Labs, where advanced imaging and technology make these life-saving interventions possible.
When a patient’s condition requires more complex intervention, our cardiac surgeons step in to provide innovative surgical solutions. Interventional cardiologists often identify surgical candidates during diagnostic evaluations and help guide referrals to the St. Elizabeth Heart Surgery team – ensuring a seamless transition between diagnostic, medical and procedural care.
Expert Cardiac Emergency Care: When Every Second Counts
There’s a saying, ‘time is muscle.’ It refers to the fact that someone having a heart attack needs care urgently to prevent or reduce damage to the heart muscle. Minutes count.
If you or a loved one experience symptoms of a heart attack, call 911 immediately.
Do not try to drive yourself to the hospital or ask a friend or family member to drive you. When you call an ambulance, the paramedics will begin lifesaving treatment right on the spot. They’ll alert our Emergency Department that they’re on their way. Members of a specialized care team at the hospital will be made aware of your vitals and ready to jump into action when you arrive. You will be transported to the Cardiac Catheterization Lab straight away for a diagnostic angiogram. An interventional cardiologist will begin treatment to restore blood flow to your heart.
Specialty Programs That Go Beyond the Basics
At St. Elizabeth, we offer a series of focused cardiology programs designed to address specific cardiovascular needs.
Cardio-Oncology
Some cancer therapies can have an adverse effect on the heart by either causing new problems or worsening existing conditions. The St. Elizabeth Cardio-Oncology program is a specialized medical discipline that concentrates on preventing, monitoring and managing cardiovascular complications related to chemotherapy, radiation therapy and targeted cancer treatments.
This team works in partnership with oncologists, hematologists and radiologists to ensure patients continue to receive lifesaving cancer therapy while minimizing cardiac risks.
Cardiometabolic
Your heart health is deeply connected to your overall metabolic wellness – and our Cardiometabolic program is designed to help you take control of both. Whether you’re living with diabetes, high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol or excess weight. Our team takes a whole person approach to care, combining lifestyle coaching, medication management and close partnership with your primary care provider, endocrinologist and cardiologist.
Sports Cardiology
Whether you’re a competitive athlete, weekend warrior or someone in a physically demanding profession, you want a team that understands the demands of your lifestyle. The Sports Cardiology Program at St. Elizabeth is built for individuals who push their limits – and want to do so safely.
This interdisciplinary team addresses the relationship between intense physical activity and cardiovascular health. We provide evaluation and support for those at risk for, diagnosed with, or recovering from heart conditions. We focus on distinguishing normal athletic heart adaptations from underlying cardiac concerns, using performance testing to guide safe return-to-play decisions and customized exercise plans.
