Joint Commission Perinatal Certification

St. Elizabeth Healthcare awarded Perinatal Care Certification from The Joint Commission

In early 2018, The Joint Commission awarded St. Elizabeth Healthcare with a distinguished honor – Perinatal Care Certification. St. Elizabeth is the first healthcare system in Kentucky to achieve this certification, demonstrating our commitment to providing quality care with excellent outcomes for mothers and their newborns in the Tri-state area.

The certification process

The Joint Commission performed an on-site visit in February 2018. During this visit, their experts evaluated many facets of perinatal care at St. Elizabeth. They made sure St. Elizabeth met the following key requirements:

  •  Integrated, coordinated patient-centered care that starts with prenatal and continues through postpartum care.
  • Early identification of high-risk pregnancies and births.
  • Risk factor management for mothers and newborns at a level corresponding to the program’s capabilities.
  • Available patient education and information about perinatal care services.

The Joint Commission on-site visit also provided St. Elizabeth with an opportunity to showcase exceptional programs offered to patients, including the bereavement program and Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) program.

St. Elizabeth has 454 employees across five departments that work in inpatient and outpatient OB-related care. To be awarded with this certification, the hospital had to meet every single part of the Joint Commission’s guidelines and excel during the two-day on-site visit.
