Frequently Asked Questions about Gynecology

Reach out to your gynecology provider if you notice new or worsening pelvic pain, unusual discharge, bleeding between periods, pain during intercourse, bladder leaking that affects daily life or any symptom that feels different than your usual cycle.

Heavy bleeding is worth discussing if you soak through pads or tampons every couple of hours, pass large clots, have bleeding between periods or cycles that last longer than a week. These symptoms may be related to fibroids, hormonal changes, endometriosis or other treatable conditions.

PCOS often shows up as irregular periods, acne that persists beyond adolescence, unexpected hair growth on the face or chin, or difficulty losing weight. Your provider can review cycle patterns, order lab tests and discuss treatment options that can reduce symptoms.

Mild cramps during a menstrual cycle are common. Pain that affects you daily, occurs outside of your period, or causes sharp or deep aching is worth evaluating. Conditions like endometriosis, ovarian cysts or pelvic inflammatory disease typically respond best to early treatment.

We can perform many procedures, including hysterectomy, myomectomy and treatment for endometriosis, using robotic-assisted minimally invasive techniques. This often means smaller incisions, less post-surgery pain and a quicker recovery.

Women considering surgery find it helpful to ask their provider about:

  • What procedure do they recommend and why?
  • Are minimally invasive options available for me?
  • What can I expect during my recovery?

Your gynecologist can explain side-by-side options and expected outcomes.

Some urine leaking after childbirth can happen early postpartum. If symptoms continue after a few months or keep you from exercising or participating in social activities, your provider can evaluate treatment options. Pelvic floor therapy can often bring relief.

Your provider may discuss hormone therapy for menopause symptoms when hot flashes, night sweats, mood changes or sleep changes begin to affect your daily life. Your health history and personal goals guide whether hormone therapy is right for you.

Most women feel prepared for their gynecology appointment when they:

  • Write down cycle changes or symptoms.
  • Know their last period date.
  • List current medications or supplements.
