Frequently Asked Questions About the Family Birth Place

Parents choose the Family Birth Place for personalized Maternity Care, beautiful and spacious birthing suites, and access to a full team, including OB-GYNs, certified nurse-midwives, lactation consultants and Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists. You’ll have support throughout pregnancy, labor, delivery and postpartum, all in one comfortable location.

Many families schedule a maternity tour in the second or early third trimester, but you can visit sooner if you’re deciding where to deliver. You can also take a virtual tour whenever you’re ready. A tour helps see the birthing suites, ask questions and feel more prepared for delivery day.

We designed our birthing suites for comfort. They include private bathrooms, space for your support person, dimmable lighting, music options and room for movement during labor. If medically appropriate, you may also have access to comfort tools such as tubs for water immersion, birthing balls or aromatherapy.

Call your provider if you’re experiencing regular contractions, your water breaks, you have decreased fetal movement or something doesn’t feel typical. If you’re unsure, it’s always okay to call. We want you to feel supported and informed.

Your care team will support whichever pain management approach you choose and offer a range of options. If you prefer an unmedicated birth, we provide tools such as a labor tub, positioning devices, a CUB chair, birthing balls and peanut balls. Aromatherapy is also available to help you stay comfortable.

You can create a birth plan so your team understands your preferences for labor positions, pain management options, newborn care and postpartum support. You can bring your own plan or start with our free downloadable birth plan template.

Your labor and delivery team may include an OB-GYN, a certified nurse-midwife, labor and delivery nurses, anesthesia providers and newborn care providers. If you need specialized support, our on-site Level III NICU team is available around the clock.

Families can choose from a variety of childbirth classes focused on labor preparation, newborn care, breastfeeding and infant safety. These classes help you feel confident and supported before delivery.

When it’s time to come to the hospital for delivery, most parents bring essentials like comfortable clothing, baby outfits, snacks, phone chargers and insurance information. We’ll provide you with a toiletry kit and water mug. During your maternity tour, you’ll see everything the Family Birth Place offers so you know exactly what to expect.

Our Postpartum Care Center is available to you after discharge, providing continued support during your recovery. This includes guidance for your emotional wellbeing, breastfeeding needs and newborn care before you go home. Our OB-GYNs, Women’s Health providers and lactation consultants are also available for follow-up as needed. We’re here to support you well beyond your hospital stay.
