Knitting Ask the St. Elizabeth Expert: How is St. Elizabeth Healthcare treating body and soul with knitting? EDGEWOOD, KY (WKRC) - When many people think of what is needed when getting better in a hospital stay, they think of treating the body. However, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare, a group of people are creating something that will help treat both the body and soul. Common Thread is a group that knits prayer shawls, which is "when someone is having a difficult time or is scared or whatever, it's something that has been knit or crocheted with prayer, and then blessed and then we can wrap the patient in prayer," Marian Boyer of St. Elizabeth Healthcare Pastoral Care said. "I love the prayer shawl idea," Laurie Winkler, a member of Common Thread, said. Common Thread needs those who sew, knit, or crotchet or want to learn to make prayer shawls for Boyer's hospital chaplain team. The group says that the need for prayer shawls is abundant right now. Ideally, they'd like to see 20 shawls a month. If you can volunteer, Common Thread is coordinating this effort for St. Elizabeth Healthcare.
