Business Courier By: James Ritchie A new affiliation with the Mayo Clinic Care Network is a natural fit for St. Elizabeth Healthcare, the Northern Kentucky hospital system’s CEO said. “When we had the first conversation, it felt like we were friends going way back,” John Dubis said in an interview. “We have the exact same culture, where the patient is at the center of the universe.” Last week, St. Elizabeth Healthcare became the 10th health care organization to join the Mayo Clinic Care Network. With the arrangement, St. Elizabeth doctors have quick access to Mayo Clinic specialists for challenging cases. When necessary, they can get patients into the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., or one of its other locations. “Patients from St. Elizabeth will be better able to schedule the time that they’ll be there and compress the time that they’ll need to be away from home,” said Sarah Giolando, chief strategy officer for St. Elizabeth. St. Elizabeth will continue to operate as an independent, nonprofit health system. Dubis estimated that St. Elizabeth’s 600 physicians will consult with the Mayo Clinic 1,200 to 1,800 times per year. His system is the exclusive Mayo Clinic Care Network member for Greater Cincinnati. Dubis said that his system can learn from Mayo Clinic’s quality-of-care and customer service excellence.
