Lung cancer is a particular cancer associated with the lungs.

There are two main types of lung cancer:

  • Non-small cell cancer, this type is the most common of lung cancer
  • Small cell lung cancer
  • Mix of small and large cell cancer

Some of the most common symptoms associated with lung cancer include:

  • Shortness of breath
  • Loss of appetite
  • Fatigue
  • Coughing up blood
  • Recent weight loss

St. Elizabeth’s Imaging department can provide a number of imaging/radiology services. A CT scan of the chest is often ordered by a physician to help diagnose lung cancer.

Bronchoscopy is another type of procedure performed to help with the diagnosis of lung cancer. The St. Elizabeth Pulmonary Team performs this outpatient procedure.

St. Elizabeth offers a number of accredited cancer programs to help diagnose and treat lung cancer. Among these is a smoking cessation program called Freedom from Smoking is a FREE 7-week tobacco cessation program developed by the American Lung Association and offered to you by St. Elizabeth Healthcare. Smoking is one of the leading causes of lung cancer. This free program is available to the community to help smokers create a successful plan to quit smoking.

In addition to your pulmonology team, the St. Elizabeth cancer care team consists of a group of highly-qualified, trained professionals that will provide the support you need.
