Ultrasound

What is an Ultrasound?

Ultrasound utilizes sound waves to take pictures of the human body non-invasively.

Quality

Every St. Elizabeth Healthcare Ultrasound location is accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The ACR is devoted to making imaging safe, effective and accessible to those who need it.

Ultrasound exams are read by Radiology Associates of Northern Kentucky (RANK), where every physician member is board certified in radiologic imaging.

Safety

All St. Elizabeth Healthcare Ultrasound Technologists are registered through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). The ARDMS is the globally recognized standard of Ultrasound Sonography. It promotes quality care and patient safety through the certification and continuing competency of ultrasound professionals.

In addition to the ACR, all St. Elizabeth Healthcare facilities are also accredited by The Joint Commission (TJC). These organizations are recognized as a nationwide symbol of safety and quality, reflecting our commitment to meeting performance standards.

Innovation

At St. Elizabeth Healthcare we strive to provide patients access to state-of-the-art technology utilizing the latest equipment.

When performing a renal (kidney) ultrasound, our protocol includes images of the urinary bladder. We cannot visualize the urinary bladder when it is empty. Therefore we have you hold your bladder one hour prior to the exam.
