STARS is a Safe place in which participants can Talk about their grief, feel Accepted for what is thought and felt, feel Respected for what they need to do with their grief, and feel Supported as they meet together. This nurturing environment empowers individuals to explore their grief and through exploration, overcome the fear of grief. Support Groups Our STARS support groups include spouses, partners, young adults and children. Our groups and individualized counseling sessions span many different unique needs, including: Bereavement camps and individual support services focused on children and families Support for widows and widowers Support after the loss of a parent Support after a loss outside the hospice setting Bereavement groups for loss due to an addiction or substance use disorder and suicide Complicated grief services or support for prolonged grief Community-based grief education Specialized Support for Children and Teens Children and young adults have unique emotional needs after the loss of a loved one. Many people assume that children are too young to really understand what’s going on. Children and young adults are also often sheltered from death and loss, in an attempt by those who care for them, to protect them. Adults dealing with grief may have a hard time themselves focusing on the needs of a child, in addition to their own. Listening is the first step to helping a child through grief. By knowing what they’re thinking, you can address their concerns and help them understand what really happened and what will happen next. Our bereavement counselors can help young adults and children navigate this complex issue.
