Precision Medicine and Genetics

What is Precision Medicine?

Precision medicine embraces the “this is right for you, personally” approach instead of a “one-size-fits-all” approach. This unique type of medicine focuses on healthcare, disease treatment and prevention by utilizing genetic information to guide a patient’s healthcare path.

Knowledge is power – and understanding your risk of disease can help you make informed healthcare and lifestyle decisions. At St. Elizabeth Healthcare, we use genetic testing to examine disease risk factors, including your family history, personal health history, and genetic testing.

When a patient decides to move forward with genetic testing, we use the results to develop a personalized healthcare and prevention plan. The shift from reactive to proactive medicine is empowering for both physicians and their patients. A genetic specialist is right here for you at each step along the way.

At-Home Genetics Testing

At-home genetic tests for medical information are now inexpensive and easy to get, but counselors at St. Elizabeth Healthcare say if you choose to buy one there are a few things to take into consideration.

Genetic Testing: The Cost

At St. Elizabeth Healthcare, our genetic counselors offer state-of-the-art testing at a reasonable cost. Over ninety percent of people who undergo genetic testing will spend less than $100 out of pocket. There is a maximum out-of-pocket of $250 for the most commonly used genetic test. Individual insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid, may offer complete coverage. For more information or to schedule an appointment, please call (859) 301-GENE (4363).
