Pharmacogenomic screening helps to avoid ineffective medications and medications that are likely to cause side effects. In addition, this information will be stored in a patient's Electronic Medical Record and automatically checked when a new prescription is written. The results are available through a physician as well as a smartphone app for easy access. How Does The Pharmacogenomic Screening Work? Pharmacogenomic Screening is ordered by your physician. You receive an email with a link that allows you to enroll in the screening service provided by ActX. Once enrolled, ActX will send you a saliva sample collection kit. You will need to follow the saliva sample collection instructions and then mail it back to the ActX laboratory to be analyzed. In four to six weeks, you will be notified of the results through your physician as well as a smartphone app. If necessary, pharmacists and physicians will review your results to determine if any changes to your medication prescriptions are needed and consult with you. * If your screening results indicate that you need additional medical attention, St. Elizabeth will provide recommendations to share with your health providers. What Does The Pharmacogenomic Screening Cost? The cost of the Pharmacogenomic Screening is $395. Cost includes coordination of pharmacogenomic screening, coordination of Proactive Genetic Screening, coordination of Carrier Status Screening and results disclosure. Individuals with a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA) can use these funds to pay for the cost of the screening.
