Pregnancy and Breastfeeding Classes

St. Elizabeth Healthcare offers many different classes for parents. Topics typically cover signs of labor, pain management, pregnancy concerns and newborn and post-partum adjustments.

Basic Pregnancy & Childbirth Classes

In-person and virtual format
Four-Week Evening Series
Free

Learn about essential exercises, nutrition, breathing techniques, relaxation and massage. Covers a pregnancy overview, comfort measures, coping tools for labor and delivery, positions for the first and second stages of labor, the role of the labor partner, newborn, post-partum care and much more.

In-person class Information: Includes a tour of the Family Birth Place. Please schedule classes early as they fill up quickly and space is limited. You may bring one support person with you to class. Feel free to bring food and drink to class.

Single Day Basic Pregnancy & Childbirth Overview

In-person, Saturday 9 a.m to 3 p.m.

Condensed version of the Basic Childbirth Course. Perfect as a refresher or for those wanting a general overview. Covers topics related to healthy pregnancy, comfort measures and breathing techniques, stages of labor, when to come to the hospital, role of the labor support team, newborn care and postpartum support. There is a break for lunch, you may pack a lunch, visit our cafeteria or enjoy lunch off-site. Includes a tour of the Family Birth Place. Please schedule classes early as they fill up quickly and space is limited. You may bring one support person with you to class. Feel free to bring food and drink to class.

Breastfeeding Class

Taught by a Certified Lactation Consultant, this class offers in-depth preparation for breastfeeding. Recommended for all first-time mothers, as well as mothers undecided about their choice for infant feeding. Labor partners are strongly encouraged to attend.

Family Birth Place Tour

In-person, 1 hour
Free

Discover the St. Elizabeth difference by giving birth at the Family Birth Place, a “baby-friendly hospital.” Our tour includes learning about Family Centered Maternity Care while viewing a Labor, Delivery & Recovery room, the postpartum unit, and a brief stop by the NICU family waiting area. You may bring one support person with you, but no strollers are permitted on the tour.

Natural Birth Methods: Unmedicated Childbirth Series

Expectant couples learn about pregnancy health and concerns, comfort measures and breathing techniques for labor, stages of labor, when to come to the hospital, role of the labor support team, as well as newborn/infant care and postpartum support. A variety of positioning devices will be shared and discussed.

Single Day Natural Birth Methods: Unmedicated Childbirth Overview

In-person, Saturday 9 a.m to 3 p.m.

This course is designed for those planning an unmedicated childbirth. Participants will learn what to expect during labor and birth and how to use relaxation techniques, positive affirmations, aromatherapy, water, breathing, positioning and massage to cope with and enhance contractions. This course is designed to give you resources at your fingertips to assist you in your goal of Natural Childbirth. Medical interventions are also discussed but not focused upon.

Dress comfortably, as you will be doing positioning and exercises in class. Your support person is encouraged to attend.

Beyond Delivery Postpartum Care Group

Free

Beyond Delivery is a virtual continuing care group for new parents. Led by a dedicated team, including providers, Registered Nurses and a Lactation Consultant (LC). This group offers support, monthly education topic and fellowship to new parents during the first six months following their baby’s birth.

Please Note: Classes are available for patients of St. Elizabeth Healthcare in Northern Kentucky, Greater Cincinnati, OH, and Southeastern Indiana.

Classes for Children & Teens

Register your child for an upcoming class at St. Elizabeth Healthcare to prepare them for a newborn sibling or teach them to babysit a baby or toddler.

Super Sibling Class

In-person only, Ages 3-8
Free
Children are asked to bring a doll/stuffed animal

This fun and interactive class prepares children for the arrival of a new brother or sister. This class covers topics to help keep the new baby safe while keeping older siblings engaged. Children will practice diapering, swaddling and holding a newborn. You and your child will take a brief tour of the Family Birth Place and a small snack will be provided for the children.

Safe Sitter

In-person only, Ages 11 and older
Fee: $20

Safe Sitter is a program for girls and boys 11 years and older. Topics covered include safety and security precautions, child development stages, age-appropriate activities, behavior management, and the business aspect of babysitting. Basic first aid and choking will be covered, as well as how to handle common emergencies. You must register for this class and submit the required registration forms and prepayment to confirm your child’s place in the class. This class follows the curriculum of the national Safe Sitter program and is approved for the Girl Scout Babysitting badge. Every student will be provided with a Safe Sitter Manual and certificate. CPR is not provided in this class.

Infant Care/Grandparents Class

Please bring a doll for practice

Get hands on practice and up to date information to help care for your family’s newest little one. Participants will practice bathing and diapering, and tips for soothing your little one will also be provided. Parents and grandparents will learn how to help a choking infant and toddler and car seat safety and infant safe sleep will also be discussed.

Smoking Cessation Class

Nicotine and carbon monoxide, both chemicals found in cigarette smoke, are believed to affect prognancy outcomes. Therefore, it is important to stop smoking during your pregnancy. Freedom from Smoking is a FREE 7-week tobacco cessation program developed by the American Lung Association and offered to you by St. Elizabeth Healthcare. This program is designed to help you take charge of your efforts to quit smoking or using other forms of tobacco. For more information, please call (859) 301-5570 for the next program being offered.

The Women’s Wellness Boutique

The Women’s Wellness Boutique is located in the Cancer Center adjacent to St. Elizabeth Edgewood. The Boutique has nursing and lactation supplies. For more information, call (859) 301-6200.
