At St. Elizabeth Healthcare, our Neuro-oncology services provide patients with advanced expertise in their diagnosis and treatment of brain, spine, and peripheral nerve tumors. We also offer the latest advances in care for adult patients with neurologic complications of cancer and its treatments.

Neuro-oncology is a specialty which involves the management of cancerous tumors of the nervous system (also known as primary and metastatic nervous system neoplasms), neurologic complications of cancer, and neurologic complications resulting from cancer therapies.

Our Neuro-oncology specialist is specifically trained in two medical specialties (neurology and oncology), which together define Neuro-oncology as a unique and important science.

  • Training in neurology allows for proper diagnosis and assessments of patients’ nervous system functions.
  • Training in oncology provides expertise in cancer treatments and support.

Our board certified Neuro-oncologist is an expert in advanced principles in the diagnosis and management of primary and secondary cancerous tumors of the nervous system, including:

  • Treatment of both common and rare brain tumors such as astrocytoma, glioblastoma multiforme, oligodendroglioma, meningioma, lymphoma, medulloblastoma, DNET, ganglioglioma, among others
  • Treatment of cancers that have spread to the nervous system (metastatic cancer), including:
    • Brain and spinal cord metastases
    • Neoplastic meningitis, ventricular (Ommaya) reservoirs
    • Other neurologic complications
  • Treatment of cancer related complications including:
    • Encephalopathy
    • CNS infections
    • Cerebrovascular disease
    • Seizures
    • Hydrocephalus, programmable shunts
    • Thromboembolism
    • Neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, anemia
    • Pain management
    • Palliative care
    • Paraneoplastic syndromes

Patients with Neuro-oncology needs receive one-on-one attention throughout their visits.

The Neuro-Oncology Clinic is a part of the St. Elizabeth Cancer Care Center, located at St. Elizabeth Edgewood, where patients have access to multiple support staff to assure their needs are addressed.
