New treatment using patients’ own tissue offers hope for hard-to-heal wounds

CINCINNATI (WKRC) – For patients living with chronic wounds that can be difficult to heal, a treatment that uses a person’s own blood components is offering new hope — particularly for people with diabetes who develop ulcers on their feet or legs.

Dr. Greg Worley, a podiatrist with St. Elizabeth Healthcare in Northern Kentucky, often treats patients with chronic ulcers and other wounds on the lower extremities, a problem that is common among diabetics. “Any type of ulcer is actually a breakdown in a protective barrier. And in this case, we’re talking about a breakdown in the skin,” Worley said.
