Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for Kentucky Veterans

St. Elizabeth Healthcare is proud to partner with HBOT4KYVETS, Inc. to offer FREE Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) to eligible Veterans (active duty, retiree, or Veterans) who are current residents of Kentucky with medical diagnosis of either Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) or Post Traumatic Brain Injury (PTSD). Through a partnership with the state of Kentucky Legislative Branch and the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs (KDVA), eligible veterans receive treatment at no cost at our Patrick T. Birrer Wound Care Centers in Covington and Ft. Thomas, Kentucky.

Hope and Healing Through Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

HBOT is a proven, nonsurgical treatment that accelerates brain tissue healing, with decades of research and 30 published clinical trials behind it.

During each session, patients rest inside a pressurized hyperbaric chamber and breathe 100% oxygen. That process increases oxygen concentration in the bloodstream by 700% to 1,100%. The treatment triggers the body’s natural healing response and promotes new cell and tissue growth, helping repair damaged brain tissue over a period of 2 to 5 months, depending on the number of TBIs, their severity and the length of time since the injuries occurred.

The science behind it goes back decades. The 1990 Textbook of Military Medicine recommended HBOT for blast-induced traumatic brain injuries. Today, 36 years of research continue to support its effectiveness for veterans living with the invisible wounds of war.

Are You Eligible for Free HBOT?

KRS 217.930-942 enacted in 2018, granted eligible Kentucky Veterans (active, retired or any Veteran who has served in one of the six military service branches) with TBI or PTSD to state funded HBOT.

To participate, visit HBOT4KYVETS.COM and select “Sign Up for Treatments” to begin the process. Participants must provide a copy of their DD Form 214 (or equivalent), be a Kentucky resident, have a written diagnosis of TBI or PTSD from a physician (VA, DoD or civilian), sign a Consent Agreement and obtain an HBOT prescription from one of the participating HBOT4KYVETS, Inc. hospital providers.

Veteran Status

You must be a Kentucky resident who is a Veteran of the United States Armed Forces (Army, Marines, Navy, USAF, Coast Guard, or Space Command).

Medical Diagnosis

You must have a written documented diagnosis of TBI or PTSD from a licensed healthcare provider.

HBOT Prescription

HBOT4KYVETS, Inc hospital network providers will provide the HBOT prescription if accepted into the program.

How to Begin Your HBOT Treatment

The path to treatment is straightforward. Here’s what to expect from initial pre-screening through your first session.

  • STEP 1 — Visit HBOT4KYVets.com. Click the link SIGN UP FOR TREATMENTS and complete the electronic application or call (502) 938-1300 to determine if you may qualify for the state approved and funded program.

  • STEP 2 — Confirm Your Diagnosis. Obtain a document TBI or PTSD diagnosis. HBOT4KYVETS, Inc hospital network providers will provide an HBOT prescription if accepted into the program.

  • STEP 3 — Provide Written Consent. Sign a written consent for the use of HBOT as part of your treatment plan.

  • STEP 4 — Begin Treatment. Agree to drug and alcohol test, and voluntary pre and post cognitive testing. Start your minimum of 40 HBOT treatment session.

Kentucky Is Leading the Way on Veteran HBOT Access

Kentucky was the fifth state in the nation to enact HBOT legislation for veterans, passing KRS 217.930–942 in 2018. Today, the movement has grown significantly.
