Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
St. Elizabeth Ft. Thomas


Tom Saalfeld currently serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for St. Elizabeth Ft. Thomas. He is responsible for overall operations of the hospital in Ft. Thomas and the Alcohol & Drug Treatment Center in Falmouth, Kentucky.

Mr. Saalfeld joined St. Elizabeth Healthcare in 1974 and has previously served as Vice President of Professional Services, Financial Manager and Accountant. He has been responsible for the majority of the ancillary departments, outpatient billing and collections, registration functions, accounting and payroll departments.

Mr. Saalfeld has been instrumental in the implementation of multiple new services and technology for the medical system throughout his tenure including: vascular imaging, sports medicine, lab information system, cardiac catheterization lab, upgrades of the MRI and CT equipment as well as other state-of-the-art technology. In his current role, Mr. Saalfeld has overseen the acquisition of new technology and services at the Ft. Thomas campus such as digital mammography, da Vinci surgical robot, new Women’s Wellness Center and renovations of the Skilled Nursing Facility, lobby area, Cancer Care Center, Endoscopy and Emergency Department.

Mr. Saalfeld earned a bachelor of arts in business administration and economics from Thomas More College and a master’s degree in business administration from Xavier University. He is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) and serves on the Carmel Manor Nursing Home Board and Finance Committee, Community Pharmacy Board and the St. Catherine of Siena Finance Committee. In addition, he is a member of the Campbell Leadership Action Group (CLAG).

Mr. Saalfeld is a life-long resident of Northern Kentucky. He grew up in Taylor Mill and attended Holy Cross High School. He and his wife, Kathy, have been residents of Ft. Thomas for more than 38 years. They have three grown sons.
