Therapy Services at St. Elizabeth provides acute and rehabilitation services to
inpatients and outpatients at all three hospitals to aid in their recovery from disease, physical injury and/or surgery. Services include: physical therapy for acute conditions, including for orthopedic and neurological patients; hand therapy including both physical and occupational therapies; work rehabilitation, available at a separate work rehab center; electromyography and nerve conduction velocity; educational services.
Physical therapists serve both inpatients and outpatients at all three St. Elizabeth hospitals, as well as in various off-site services, and within the patients' own home through St. Elizabeth's Home Care program. Specialized areas include hand therapy, sports medicine, business health, work rehabilitation, pain management, and more.
Physical Therapy concentrates on physical modalities and therapeutic exercise. Treatment may include hydrotherapy, cryotherapy, heat procedures, traction, electrical muscle stimulation, and other services. Therapists and therapeutic assistants also help patients increase strength, range of motion, balance and coordination through therapeutic exercise. Patients with braces and prosthetics learn gait and weight transfer techniques. Specialized treatment areas include therapy to treat TMD/TMJ disorders; treatment to help control primary or secondary lymphedema; and education/instruction on how to improve pelvic muscle function, to assist with conditions such as prolapse, incontinence; fibromyalgia, orthopedic and neurological conditions.
All services require an appointment made by the patient or the physician's office. Services require a physician referral. Many insurance companies require pre-authorization for services, to be initiated by the referring physician's office.
