Description of Services:
St. Elizabeth Medical Center Nutrition Services supports inpatient and outpatient services at the North, South and Grant County hospitals. We employ a staff of over 100 including food service workers, dietetic technicians, registered dietitians, a chef, supervisors and managers.
Inpatient Food Service
If you are currently a patient in the hospital, we want to make every meal enjoyable for you. We offer a variety of great tasting menu items designed and prepared to satisfy you. You can review your menus by tuning in to Channel 29 at the South unit and Channel 2 at the North unit. Your doctor may prescribe a specific diet with your medical condition in mind. Therefore, the foods in your diet may be modified to comply with your doctor's orders. If you have any specific food or beverage preferences, food allergies or if you would like more detailed information about your diet please ask to see your Dietetic Technician, Registered Dietitian or call ext. 12185.
Inpatient Clinical Nutrition
During your stay at the hospital, our clinical nutrition staff may visit you. We employ both Dietetic Technicians as well as Registered Dietitians who are experts in the field of nutrition. Our clinical staff can assess and evaluate your nutritional status, develop an individual plan of care and monitor your progress towards meeting your nutritional goals. Our staff can also provide education on a variety of specific diets your doctor may prescribe for your medical condition. Individual Nutrition Counseling
During our individual nutritional counseling, you will meet one-on-one with a Registered Dietitian. After reviewing your medical nutritional history, our Registered Dietitian will create a personalized nutrition care plan for you and establish goals with you to assist with your individual nutritional needs. Our Registered Dietitians provide expert and personalized nutrition guidance and counseling for patients with special nutritional needs. These include:
- Hypoglycemia
- Prenatal nutrition
- Gastric bypass
- Renal diets/kidney disease
- High blood pressure
- Weight gain/ High protein
- Weight management
- Eating disorders
- Food Allergies
- Low Cholesterol/ Low fat
- Sports nutrition
- Other nutritional needs or diets as ordered by your doctor

MedGemTM Resting Metabolic Rate Measurement
The MedGem is a simple, non-invasive device that measures the number of calories burned in a resting state. This device can help pinpoint the number of calories that are needed for weight loss, weight gain or weight maintenance. This service can be used separately or in conjunction with the Outpatient Nutrition Counseling Program. Call 859.301.2183 for more information or to schedule an appointment.
Healthy Directions "Your Path to a Healthy Weight"
This 10-week program is designed to provide participants with all the tools they need for successful weight management for life. The program offers a Healthy Directions workbook, weekly education sessions, cooking demonstrations, behavior and lifestyle modification, goal setting and monitoring, and a personalized nutrition assessment with a Registered Dietitian. Cardiac Rehabilitation Group Education Classes
"Foods and Your Heart" is a nutrition class offered jointly by the St. Elizabeth Nutrition Services Department and St. Elizabeth Cardiac Rehabilitation Program. During the class, the Registered Dietitian will discuss risk factors associated with heart disease, how fats, cholesterol and sodium can affect your heart and teach you how to make healthier food choices. This class is held on the first Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. and the third Friday of each month at 9:30 a.m. at the Cardiac Health Center, 830 Thomas More Parkway. Family members are welcome. Diabetes Self-Management Outpatient Program
Individual counseling and group classes on managing diabetes are offered through the St. Elizabeth Diabetes Self-Management Outpatient Program. Call 859.301.2466 for more information.

How can I make an appointment to see the outpatient dietitian?
Contact the Nutrition Services Office Coordinator, Kimberly Crow at 859.301.2183 to set up an appointment. You will need a referral from your physician with both the written diet order and the diagnosis code. Please have your physician's office fax the referral to Kimberly Crow, Nutrition Services Office Coordinator at 301.301.3954.
