Inpatient Food Service

No matter what brings you to any of our hospitals, we want to make sure that all of your meals are enjoyable. To make your stay at St. Elizabeth that much more comfortable, we offer a variety of great tasting menu items designed and prepared with your tastes in mind.

There are a number of ways you can view the menu selections we have prepared for you. If you are with us at our Edgewood facility, you can review our menus by tuning in to Channel 29. At Florence and Ft. Thomas you are offered a select menu that will be reviewed with you by one of our nutrition team members. Your doctor may also prescribe a specific diet with your medical condition in mind. At that point, the foods in your diet may be modified to comply with your doctor's orders.

If you have any specific food or beverage preferences, any food allergies, or if you would like more details about your diet please, please feel free to ask one of our Dietetic Technicians or Registered Dietitians. You can call one of them at (859) 301-2185 at Edgewood; (859) 572-3111 at Ft. Thomas; or (859) 212-5139 at Florence.

Inpatient Clinical Nutrition Staff
While you’re at the hospital, one of our clinical nutrition staff may come to check on you. We employ both Dietetic Technicians as well as Registered Dietitians who are experts in the field of nutrition. Our staff can assess and evaluate your nutritional status, develop an individual plan as well as help to monitor your progress towards meeting your nutritional goals. Our staff can also provide education on a variety of specific diets your doctor may prescribe depending on your medical condition.

Comfort Care Food Line
St. Elizabeth Healthcare has a new food line for cancer patients and it is the first of its kind that relies on locally grown products

For the past year, St. Elizabeth’s clinical nutrition team has been working with Katelyn Honey, Inc. (KHI) on a Kentucky Proud agricultural and food marketing project intended to boost nutritional intake for cancer and post – cancer patients.

KHI developed a line of fortified soups and other foods - under the Comfort Care™ name - that are ready to go to market with our endorsement. KHI will kick off the program at St. E before going national with their products.

Good for Our Patients, Our Community and Our Planet
The exciting news about the project is that it incorporates a sustainable, green approach, since the products use local food and resources. Likewise, the line is not only packaged in environmentally friendly materials, but the packaging is assembled by workers with disabilities in our community.

The Comfort Care line is formulated to help cancer patients recover by maintaining good nutrition. It includes soups, artisan whole wheat bread, fortified beverages, oatmeal, apple butter, honey and cookies.

These are nutritionally dense products. For instance, the vitamin-rich soups have been created with 8 grams of protein and 5 grams of fiber per 8-ounce serving. And all of the ingredients used are free of artificial flavors and preservatives.

These special foods are not available at retail outlets. But, all of the products can be purchased at CentrePoint Café at St. Elizabeth Edgewood. Products can also be shipped directly to patients’ homes. For more information regarding Comfort Care products see their web site www.comfort-care-products.com
