St. Elizabeth Healthcare Recognized as a Milk Depot Community Partner and local Drop-Off Point

Edgewood, KY – St. Elizabeth Healthcare is excited to announce its partnership with The Milk Bank, a non-profit organization committed to providing babies with human milk.

Premature and ill infants in the NICU benefit greatly from mother’s milk, but it’s not always possible for their own mother to supply them with it. The Milk Bank provides these fragile babies with pasteurized donor breastmilk. The donated milk is considered medicinal and can help infants start to gain weight and begin to thrive.

Pasteurized Donor Human Milk (PDHM) provides babies with vital nutrition, immunity and antibodies that may not be available in formula. PDHM is endorsed by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

“Serving as a Milk Depot is a wonderful opportunity for St. Elizabeth to partner with a life-saving organization,” says Ellee Humphrey, System Director of Women and Children’s Services at St. Elizabeth Healthcare. “We are excited to give women in Northern Kentucky an impactful and empowering way to help other families, both in our community and throughout the country.”

“We hope to continue forging partnerships with organizations throughout the Midwest to make the process of human milk donation easier for donor moms and families, while also helping to support breastfeeding in local communities,” says Janice O’Rourke, Executive Director of The Milk Bank. “We’re pleased to be working in conjunction with St. Elizabeth Healthcare to enhance the collection and distribution of breast milk in Northern Kentucky.”
