Edgewood, KY—St. Elizabeth Healthcare will complete the expansion and renovation of the Family Birth Place in Edgewood on June 27. The unit is being enhanced to feature 33 newly renovated state-of-the-art Labor, Delivery, Recovery and Postpartum suites. Also, the Family Birth Place has added a six bed recovery unit, six private triage rooms, four surgical suites and an eight bed prenatal area. In addition, earlier this month, St. Elizabeth Healthcare unveiled the renovated 1B Unit. The 23 bed post C-section / Gynecological unit was completely renovated to include private, more spacious rooms for patients, and a larger waiting area for family and friends of patients. As part of this expansion, the St. Elizabeth Florence Birthing Center will consolidate its assets into Edgewood, allowing parents and newborns to experience comprehensive care and the latest medical technologies and amenities that are available. “The renovations and enhancements to the Family Birth Place were designed to ensure parents and newborns feel as comfortable as possible,” says Laurie Conkright, System Director of Women and Children at St. Elizabeth Healthcare. “We look forward to a continued relationship in caring for women’s health needs throughout our community as we have for the past 150 years.” This consolidation of services is part of a strategic plan developed and announced by St. Elizabeth Healthcare in 2009, which focused on the needs to expand services to provide patients with superior levels of care and service options. Although the birthing centers are being consolidated, the services provided by St. Elizabeth Physicians Women’s Health (obstetrics, gynecology and midwifery care) will continue to be offered at their current locations. This includes prenatal and gynecologic care before, during, and beyond pregnancy; ultrasounds and lab work; and breast exams. Public tours of the enhanced St. Elizabeth Edgewood Family Birth Place are offered one Sunday each month. To register for a tour, call (859) 301-BABY (2229).
