Approximately 200 people attended “A Heart-to-Heart about Arrhythmia” on Tuesday May 13, featuring Thomas P. Carrigan, MD, from the St. Elizabeth Heart & Vascular Institute and Christopher J. McLeod, MB, ChB, PhD, from Mayo Clinic. Both physicians specialize in cardiac electrophysiology, a specialty that focuses on heart rhythm disorders. They described the electrical system of the heart, typical problems that can occur, and the latest treatment options for many rhythm disorders, including the most common arrhythmia, atrial fibrillation. They also talked about the connection between atrial fibrillation and stroke. Both physicians stayed afterward and answered questions from audience members.
