It allows for qualified participants to learn more about health career options and the associated skills/education requirements. Frequently Asked Questions about the Career Exploration program Who is eligible to participate? Those who are 16 years of age at time of application For participants younger than 18 at the time of shadowing, prior parental/legal guardian permission is required. Who are some of your typical participants? High school students making educational/class/college choices related to their interest in a healthcare career College students formalizing their healthcare major/career path Those considering returning to school for a healthcare career as an initial or second career What requests are not covered? The program is not intended to be a: job preview for employment purposes clinical rotation, externship, internship, or practicum “Go to Work” Day with a relative/friend How long will I be scheduled & what time of the day can I observe? This experience is designed to be a one-time observation experience typically lasting up to four hours during Human Resources business hours (7:00 am - 5:00 pm). Which St. Elizabeth locations participate? Observation is typically done at the Edgewood, Florence, or Ft. Thomas locations. If other St. Elizabeth Healthcare locations are requested, this will be dealt with on an individual basis. What professions/departments can I observe? Healthcare professionals are observed in the following areas: Nursing Pharmacy Radiology Laboratory Social Work Dietary/Nutrition Labor and Delivery Respiratory Therapy Recreational Therapy Emergency Department Therapies(Physical, Speech and/or Occupational) Requests outside these areas will be dealt with on an individual basis. Observations are not permitted in the surgical (perioperative) areas through the Career Exploration program. I don’t see a physician, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, or certified registered nurse anesthetist on the list. Can I shadow them? Contact Angela Chambers in Medical Affairs at (859) 301-9753 or via email for information. I need observation hours to apply for my Physical Therapy Master’s program. Will the Career Exploration program help me? For current college students needing observation hours required to enter a specific healthcare program (i.e. Physical and Occupational Therapy): The Career Exploration program will arrange for a MAXIMUM of 8 HOURS of observation time. If more than 8 hours are needed, St. Elizabeth Volunteer Services can be contacted for more information. I am a school Career Counselor/Advisor. Can I refer my students? Of course! Potential students can be referred to the Career Exploration website and apply as an individual. If you want to discuss other arrangements, call Human Resources at (859) 344-2150 and ask for the Career Exploration (Observation/Shadowing) coordinator. I know the Career Exploration program at St. Elizabeth is a career assistance tool offered to benefit the community. Are there any limitations I should be aware of? St. Elizabeth Healthcare will make every attempt to accommodate a qualified applicant's request, but it cannot be guaranteed as patient care and patient safety are always our primary priorities, as well as support of our staff who provide this excellent care. I am required to complete a CLINICAL ROTATION, INTERNSHIP, or PRACTICUUM as a requirement of my major. Does this program help me set this up?
