Edgewood, KY—St. Elizabeth Healthcare has received a $16,000 grant from The Greater Cincinnati Foundation (GCF) to fund the Ovarian Cancer Awareness Initiative.

With the support of the GCF Grant, St. Elizabeth Women’s Wellness will be able to address ovarian cancer awareness and improve outcomes for women by educating primary care providers and family practitioners on proper evaluation and management of at-risk women. This widespread educational initiative will touch more than 40,000 women in the next three years. In addition, women at the highest risk for ovarian cancer, those with BRCA mutations, will undergo enhanced evaluation through the Women’s Wellness Breast Centers.

“We hope to make more women and providers aware of the means for early identification of ovarian cancer and the best ways to treat our patients for optimal outcomes” said Dr. Jack Basil of Tristate Gynecologic Oncology.

The St. Elizabeth Ovarian Cancer Awareness Initiative will begin in September 2013 in conjunction with Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and will continue for three years. The St. Elizabeth Healthcare Foundation is accepting donations to make our region a healthier, stronger, more vibrant place. For more information, please contact the Foundation at 859-301-3920.
